ASTEC's origin as part of a Telecoms Operator has provided a sound basis in Telecoms Engineering resulting in ASTEC carrying out projects covering all aspects of Telecommunications Systems and processes around the world. Specifically ASTEC is active in a number of wireless and mobile divisions such as regulation, TETRA systems, strategic consulting and technical specifications for mobile surveillance systems. An example of this includes surveillance systems for border control and police in a number of countries especially within the Central and Eastern Europe region. Other activities such as Mobile Radio-communications, Network specifications, mobile and fixed line markets, Internet and E-Business, IT Development Plans and strategic recommendations for national mobile number portability  are but a few of the activities undertaken by ASTEC.

ASTEC also provides network design and planning expertise to all stakeholders: - Telecoms operators; research Institutes; Utilities; Government departments and private companies.

Training is also an integral part of ASTEC’s core business. Seminars and training within the Telecommunications field have focused on various topical areas including regulation, switching, signalling, networks among others across Ireland, Europe and further afield.
